Vergelegen wine estate wins prestigious award

One of South Africa’s oldest wine estates, Vergelegen, today announced that its Camellia garden was recognized by the International Camellia Society.

The Estate, owned by Anglo American, has one of only 17 dedicated Camellia gardens in the world and two in the Southern hemisphere.

The Camellia garden is one of 10 gardens on the estate covering 10 hectares.

It has been a good month for the historic wine estate who was also awarded a “Welcome Award” by South African Tourism earlier this month.

The estate is counted amongst South Africa’s top wine producers, with a string of local and international awards and also known for its incredible natural beauty, historic buildings, and fine-dining restaurant.

In recognition of ongoing efforts to restore indigenous fauna and flora on the Estate it was also recognized for being the first champion of the Biodiversity in Wine initiative.
