Fifa World Cup 2010

The first African World Cup
By middle next year 3 million visitors and billions of television viewers will know who Zakumi is, how to diski dance, wear a makarapa and be able to blow a vuvuzela. Yes, South Africa is gearing up to host the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup between June 11 and July 11 2010. It will be the first time that an African country will host this prestigious international tournament.

Opening match and semi-finals
The opening match will be played at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. Semi-final matches will be held in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Durban. The final is scheduled to be played on July 11, 2010, also at Soccer City.

Another fixture at South African soccer matches is a noisy plastic trumpet called a vuvuzela. So loud is the vuvuzela that in fact many foreign teams have expressed their desire for the trumpet-like instrument to be banned but Fifa and SA’s Organising Committee have reiterated that the instrument is here to stay.
