Mayotte is a nature lovers’ paradise with exceptional tropical scenery and plenty of tourist attractions relating to hiking, water sports, beaches, and animal life.

Mayotte Lagoon

The key attraction on Mayotte is the Mayotte Lagoon that is protected by a barrier reef of more than 160 kilometers long. The lagoon itself occupies an area of more than a thousand square kilometers and is the largest natural lagoon in the world.

Beaches

There are several outstanding beaches on the island that provide tourists with well equipped diving facilities. Because of the coral reef that encircles the island, the beaches are perfectly safe for swimming and snorkeling without any risk of shark attacks.

Diving

Pamanzi is just about 3 miles from the main island, and is renowned as one of the most perfect diving spots in the world. Apart from the breathtaking snorkeling and diving opportunities, the rich vegetation contributes to the splendor of this isle. There is an abundance of diving facilities scattered all over Mayotte that can assist the most novice diver without lacking in service to the more experienced divers.

Sulu

This is another spectacular tourist attraction on Mayotte. Here you will be able to swim under a waterfall that plummets down into the sea.

Sea Turtles

Alongside the southern coastline of Mayotte you will be able to see plenty of sea turtles nesting. These turtles are close to extinction and tourists are advised not to go closer or interfere with the turtles.

Humpback Whales

During August and September these large sea mammals make use of the lagoon to nurse their calves due to the safety and calmness of the waters.

Hiking

Various easy hiking trials along beautiful tracks are one of the large attractions on Mayotte. You will find yourself in the midst of exuberant giant bamboo, wild citrus, mango, banana, and coconut trees. Various birds, large bats, and small monkeys referred to as “maki” inhabits these trees and you are likely to spot some of them through the lush green plants.  Their presence will be made known by the various grunts and yells rising above the birdsong.
