Former U.S. President George W. Bush has arrived in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, to address the opening of a five-day international conference on AIDS in Africa. Mr. Bush, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, is concluding an African tour that has already taken him to Tanzania and Zambia.

SAA is hosting an International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) under the theme ‘Own, Scale-up and sustain’ from 4-8 December 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. SAA selected Ethiopia based on interest expressed by the Ethiopian Government to host the conference, and its ability to meet the set criteria. Over 10 000 delegates from around the world including scientists, health professionals, policy makers, heads of states and dignitaries, people living with HIV (PLHIV), community leaders and activists working in the fields of HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, Tuberculosis and Malaria are expected to attend this conference.

ICASA is one of the major international AIDS conferences happening in Africa. Its current biennial hosting alternates between the Anglophone and Francophone African countries. ICASA 2008 was held in Dakar, Senegal.
